I would like to nominate Dr. Lauren Savage for her unwavering care of my beloved dog Lyle. Lyle would get bad allergies every fall, and I tried to get him into see his regular vet for an allergy shot but, he could not be seen for a few days. So, while I was working my parents offered to take him to their regular vet. He was seen by a doctor that day and I immediately started receiving texts about further tests they would have to run, The news was becoming more and more grim. His platelets were so low, they could not believe he was even alive. They gave him a steroid shot for the evening, and recommended I go to Noah's Ark Animal Clinic the following day just for diagnostic testing, as they were considerably more affordable there. Lyle and I wanted to be sure we were the first to be seen the next morning so we arrived at 6:00 am waiting anxiously in the car until the doors opened at 8:00 am. By a little miracle (well big miracle) we were seen right away by Dr. Savage. She also was very, very concerned with Lyle's incredibly low platelet count. She ran tests, x-rays, all while keeping me calm and informed. Not an easy thing to do if you know me and how much I love my dog. She explained what a low platelet count does to his body but, that it was hard to tell because he is one tough little beagle (never showing any signs weakness, or distress). She has been with us though this entire year. Trying various levels of Prednisone, Azathioprine, Cyclosporine, and Mycophenolate. She has never given up on us, despite two torn ACL's (at the same time), and 3 cases of pancreatitis which required hospitalization. There is not a day that goes by that i don't thank my lucky stars for Dr. Savage. She is always so quick to inform us as soon as possible of blood test results. She is so cognizant of the fact that we don't have tons of money to throw at every medical emergency, so she is always trying to find the safest most economical way through this complicated disease. She keeps me so informed of every medical procedure and explains the process so well, I feel as if I am receiving a crash course in veterinarian medicine. She is everything you wish for in a veterinarian. In this gnarly old world, she is a rare gem and deserves this award and all the dog kisses she can handle.
