Hutch, my 7 year-old sheepadoodle, was dying before my eyes back in February 2024. I rushed him to Carolina Veterinary Specialists where he was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia. He had zero platelets and could not make them fast enough to stop internal bleeding. The team of vets there, including Dr. Lisa Olsen, who has continued his follow-up treatments for the ensuing seven months, got Hutch stabilized over several days in the ICU. Dr. Olsen has followed him consistently and Hutch LOVES going to see her. She has a wonderful rapport with animals (and people). In a practice where so many patients are critically ill, she counts Hutch as a success story. He was weaned off his last meds yesterday and his bloodwork is now normal. Dr. Olsen told me she has been doing "happy dances" in the office with his remarkable follow-up.
