My vet cares so much for the animals in his charge it would be difficult to find a more dedicated and educated veterinarian. He has met me at his office, at 1 a.m., because my recently anesthitized sugar glider was not responsive- without hesitation! At the time, we did not know he had pnuemonia and the anethesia were to prove to be fatal. Dr. Doug's compassion and truly heartfelt sorrow showed so clearly as we dealt with Rancid's necropsy. I had originally taken Rancid to another vet to treat the pnuemonia becuase Dr. Doug was out of town. I wish desperately that Dr. Doug had treated Rancid Crabtree. He might still be with us. My vet also runs an animal shelter out of his office and treats many of the animals in foster care for free. He gives free first time visits to any animal adopted from a shelter. He travels to Africa to treat the elephants on the reservations: for free. He even wrote a line of children's books to help educate children about the care, joys, and sorrows of being lucky enough to have an animal in your life. He continually educates and entertains with his articles, radio programs, etc. Dr. Doug is everything a veterinarian should be. If more people could have a vet like him, not only would the animals benefit from such a caring and knowledgable doctor, but the humans might find that he treats souls, both human and animal, as well. Deserves to win!
